Holter Monitoring Using funds from the recently passed tax measure, SIHD has purchased its own state-of-the-art Holter monitor, which can be worn during your regular daily activities and records the heart activity. Since the recording covers a greater period of time than a regular EKG, the recording is more likely to detect an abnormal heart rhythm if present. It can also evaluate your cardiac activity during episodes of chest pain, during which time there may be changes indicative of ischemia, or reduced blood supply to the muscles of the heart. The Holter monitoring is performed by attaching sticky EKG electrodes to your chest. Thin wires connect the EKG electrodes to a small electronic recorder, which can be worn under your clothing unnoticed. The heart's activity is then recorded and analyzed for the specified time period (usually 24 hours). The physician can then evaluate the recording to correlate any symptoms of chest pain, dizziness or black outs. | | Southern Inyo Healthcare District 501 E. Locust St. P.O.
